Good morning and welcome from all 4 moderators to the first day of our practical e-forum on RDA, which begins at 10am this morning.  We're really excited to have so many people signed up to take part, and hope that we can encourage as many of you as possible to submit your RDA records so that we can all share and learn from each other.  (But if you've not been able to create RDA records, then please don't let that put you off joining in the discussion!).  As we said in the advertising, can we reassure you that these records aren't being 'marked' or judged', and that we expect that the records submitted won't all be identical.  In fact it's the differences in records which will aid our discussions today.  You'll see that Celine and I have differences in our records, for example; some of those will be due to local policies, and some of them will be due to different interpretations of the Toolkit.  In some cases, we're not entirely sure how to interpret a particular rule, and so we have questions, but we're hoping that we will all learn from each other today.

We'll provide you with timings as we go through the day, and have built in 15 minutes for the submission of each record (giving us all time to have a look at the records), and then half an hour for discussion on each record.  You can submit records as pdfs or word files, or copy and paste the records into the body of the email.

There will be a lunchbreak between 12.30 and 2, where we won't submit any new records, which hopefully gives people a chance to catch up on anything they've missed in the morning.  We'll round up the day at 4pm.   The full schedule for today is at the end of this email.

As AACR2 turned out to be such a difficult record, we've decided to leave it til the end of today to discuss, so we'll begin by submitting record 2.  If you could do that between now and 10.30, and then between 10.30 and 11, we'll have some discussion of record 2.    If you're in and out of the office due to meetings etc, then please dip in and out where you can.  So that the JISCmail archives collate emails well for us, please make sure you include the number of the record you're submitting or discussing in the subject line of each email.

It might be worth me mentioning at the start of the day that messages sometimes take a little while to appear on JISCmail lists, so if your message doesn't appear straight away then please don't worry or re-send.  We're not moderating the list, so it will get through.
