South West Image Bank, Barbican Plymouth Devon
OPERATIONS MANAGER AND PART TIME ARCHIVIST POSTS
The South West Image Bank (SWiB) was set up by the Plymouth Barbican Trust Limited in 2006 to catalogue
and digitise unique photographic archives for safe keeping by members of the public and corporate bodies. SWiB has been the recipient of two Heritage Lottery Fund Awards. It has grown to be recognised as an important and significant heritage collection for
the City of Plymouth. It also supports a team of over 20 volunteers and is housed in a newly refurbished distinctive building located in the Barbican, Plymouth.
SWiB is seeking to fill two posts.
Firstly, a specialist part –time experienced Archivist to work one day a week. This post will be responsible
for the management of the collections to professional archival standards, ensuring the packaging and storage conditions are appropriate, cataloguing the collections and providing access to them in an appropriate manner. A good working knowledge of the CALM
cataloguing software is required. In addition, the post will need to work closely with the Operations Manager and liaise regularly with Plymouth City Council’s Archives and Information Manager. The salary would be circa £20,000 pro rata per annum, dependent
on experience.
The second post required to be filled is an experienced full time Operations Manager. This post will manage
the volunteers, the on-line presence, the premises, accounting and administration matters and contribute to the direction of SWiB in conjunction with the Board to secure the long term financial sustainability for the collections. In addition, working in partnership
with the part-time archivist will be crucial to the success of the role. The salary would be circa £17,000 per annum.
Both roles would be recruited in an initial fixed employment contract of one year. The posts are available
from 3 December 2012.
We invite applications, in the form of CV and covering letter, from suitably qualified individuals for
either or both roles. Candidates should make it clear on application for which role(s) they are applying. Potential role amalgamation would be considered for applicants who consider they have sufficient experience to undertake both roles concurrently.
For more information or to apply for the role(s), please apply to Tony Golding, Company Secretary, The
Plymouth Barbican Trust Limited, Blue Haze, Down Road, Tavistock, Devon PL19 9AG. The closing date is 5 November 2012 and interviews will follow shortly afterwards.
