UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK
Department of Epidemiology and Public Health
Senior Postdoctoral Researcher
Fixed term contract for 3 years

Project: “Lifestyle Transitions and Trajectories through the Life course:  Enhancing capacity in
Irish cohort and cross-sectional studies”

Salary: €43,643 – €46,255
Closing Date for Applications: 30th NOVEMBER 2012

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Post-doctoral Researcher in Biostatistics. She/He will contribute to a Health Research Board Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement Project: “Lifestyle Transitions and Trajectories through the Life course:  Enhancing capacity in Irish cohort and cross-sectional studies”. The project involves collaboration with national and international partners and is led by Dr Patricia Kearney. The Fellow will be directly supervised by Dr. Tony Fitzgerald (Departments of Epidemiology & Public Health and Statistics, UCC), Dr. Kearney and Dr. Joseph Eustace (Department of Medicine, UCC).

In addition to the salary, the position includes generous support for international placements with collaborating universities in the UK, US and Australia as well as funding for attending training courses and international meetings.

This position involves methodological developments on the analysis of longitudinal data using data from nine Irish observational studies (six cohorts, three cross-sectional) that collectively span the life course. The work will include the development of statistical methods to model complex functional accelerometer data, to identify subgroups based on dietary and physical activity data, and to model the complex longitudinal associations between time-dependent factors, their trajectories, and subsequent health outcomes.  It will include an assessment of objective methods of measuring physical activity using accelerometers, applied work aimed at correcting for bias in estimation and inference due to covariate measurement error in survival data analysis, data reduction methods and functional data analysis, particularly as arises in studies of the health effects of physical activity and other lifestyle behaviours.
