Dear colleagues,

Call for Abstracts - Book Title: “Tourism in the Green Economy”

Editors: Dr Vijay Reddy and Dr Keith Wilkes

For the last few years, international organisations such as the UNWTO and UNEP have been advocating that the green economy approach has the potential to achieve low-carbon socially inclusive sustainable growth and to meet the combined carbon mitigation scenarios of the tourism sector (i.e. 68% reduction when compared to ‘business-as-usual’ level). The concept surrounding the green economy approach is not new and the topic is very much expected to gain more attention in the light of the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). It is extremely important to identify methods and pursue appropriate strategies that will reduce the huddles facing the carbon reduction targets of the tourism sector and to work in future for the green economy transition. Our international conference quite successfully organised at the Bournemouth University earlier this month (www.bournemouth.ac.uk/climatechange2012) also stressed the joint co-operation of researchers, policy makers, national and local authorities in this area.

The aim of this book (2013) is to provide the first comprehensive set of tourism debates, early responses, on-going and up-coming research initiatives that will enable tourism’s transition to a green economy. ‘Earthscan with Routledge’ is interested in publishing this book. The editors invite abstracts from contributors around the world, under categories: a) understanding the Green Economy concept and the role of tourism, b) responses and initiatives in greening tourism, and c) emerging techniques and research implications. We have slightly extended the deadline for submission of abstracts and full papers.

Submission of abstracts (150 words): 30 November 2012

Submission of full chapters (6000 words): 31 March 2013

We would be happy to discuss your early thoughts and we look forward to receiving abstracts representing travel, tourism, events and hospitality fields. If you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your interest.

With kind regards,
