Postdoctoral Position
ASTRON

Post-doctoral position in precision pulsar timing with LOFAR in the
Astronomy Group at ASTRON (Dwingeloo, the Netherlands)
This is a 2+1-year appointment open to researchers with a PhD degree in
astronomy, astrophysics or a related discipline. The successful
candidate will be expected to carry out a timing programme on
millisecond pulsars, using the world=27s premier low-frequency radio
telescope, LOFAR. The project specifically aims to observe a set of
millisecond pulsars in order to characterise profile evolution,
scattering and dispersion measure variations. These observations will be
used to either improve the precision with which these sources can be
timed at higher observing frequencies, or to provide information on the
limits of precision pulsar timing, as dictated by these effects. Such
information will be crucial input into the design of pulsar timing array
experiments that attempt to make direct detections of gravitational
waves through pulsar timing. Research interest and experience in
high-time-resolution, observational radio astronomy is desirable, but
excellent candidates with other backgrounds are also encouraged to
apply.

ASTRON's Astronomy Group is a scientifically rich environment with
strong ties to technical development in the domain of radio astronomy,
both within the institute and internationally.
