*** APOLOGIES FOR ANY CROSS POSTING *** Dear Colleague NOVEMBER FORUM EVENT - Manchester, Tuesday 20th November 2012 (the day before the Manchester Postgraduate Fair) Theme: Europe: Threat, Opportunity or Necessity for UK PG? Every year there are reports in the media about undergraduate students running away from mounting fees to Europe and beyond - but what about those UK students choosing to take a masters or PhD in Europe? And even before the recent events at London Met, how many potential overseas postgraduates were considering other European countries alongside - or maybe even instead of - the UK, as a destination? Europe plays an important role in the UK's place in the postgraduate market, and in an increasingly uncertain postgraduate climate, never more so. In this Forum session we'll be trying to pin down some data and find out what's really happening, and discussing whether Europe, for the postgraduate market place is threat, opportunity or necessity. We'll also be looking at the strategic and practical implications for Universities: what can we do to attract more European students and to ensure we don't lose other students to this increasingly competitive marketplace? This session is for all staff involved in attracting or keeping European students at postgraduate level, from marketing, international, student recruitment, department administrative or academic roles. As part of the session, we'll be hearing from a panel of students, and the event also includes some case studies from colleagues from the sector. We have space for a couple more case studies so if you (or a colleague) are involved in your institution's activities to attract European students, or if you have a view on postgraduates leaving or bypassing the UK to study in Europe, please contact Jane Penrose on [log in to unmask] or 07739 457182. Case studies are 5-10 mins only, plus participation in a Q&A panel. Further details about the event, and a provisional programme are given below. As usual, we are offering a reduced rate if you or a colleague from your Department have attended before, or if you are offering a case study at the session.
