The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney is the largest and most comprehensive grouping of allied health professions, researchers and teachers in Australia. The Discipline of Exercise and Sport Science, known for its work in the application of exercise to health and human performance, is committed to understanding and communicating how movement, physical activity and nutrition affect chronic disease, disability, rehabilitation from injury, athletic performance and health across the lifespan.



The faculty currently seeks to appoint a highly motivated professor (Level E) as Head of Discipline and Professor of Exercise and Sport Science. This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in the discipline and to make a significant contribution to its research and teaching programs. The discipline is responsible for teaching exercise and sports science at baccalaureate levels and exercise physiology at baccalaureate and graduate levels.



To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:

*         an outstanding publication record and track record in securing research grants relevant to one of the following areas motor control and behaviour (performance, learning and skill acquisition) exercise physiology, health promotion and primary care

*         a commitment to excellence in university-level education and professional service

*         leadership skills and evidence of highly effective interpersonal skills

*         significant experience in recruiting, supervising and supporting postgraduate students

*         interest and expertise in curriculum development

*         a successful record of working collaboratively with the health sector and other external stakeholders.



Applications from candidates with expertise in any of the aforementioned research areas would be welcome, as would applications from candidates in cognate fields. There is also strong potential for interdisciplinary research and collaboration across the University.



The successful applicant will work alongside a passionate team of scientists in the various disciplines of exercise and sports science and pursue a research program. The appointee will teach in their relevant field, as well as supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to the discipline's academic programs. Furthermore, the appointee will provide significant leadership and vision for the discipline in accordance with its strategic plan.



The appointee must hold a PhD with research expertise in one of the following sub-disciplines (motor control and behaviour, exercise; physiology, health promotion and primary care) or similar cognate area. An established research profile demonstrated by a strong publication record and national competitive research grant acquisition will be essential, as will experience in university teaching, good communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
