St Hilda’s College wishes to appoint a fixed-term 7-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in German for two terms from Hilary Term 2013 to Trinity Term 2013 (1 January - 30 September 2013).  The appointment is to fulfil teaching needs while a Fellow is on leave, and will not be renewed.

The Lecturer will be expected to provide a combined total of seven hours of teaching in German literature and language per week during term.  Specific needs include tutorial coverage of the literary set texts for the Preliminary Examination at the end of the first year, and of the second half of the modern period of literature (i.e. 1730 to the present) for the Final Honour School (details in the Further Particulars).  While the teaching of German conversation and essay-writing is covered by the DAAD-Lektorin, the ability to teach translation into and/or out of German to first years and finalists is desirable.  The appointee will also be responsible for the oversight and organisation of German within the College, including pastoral care, the setting and marking of College examinations, and administration related to the year abroad.

Candidates should have a strong educational background, with a good first degree, and should be working for, or have already obtained, a doctorate in German, and be able to offer a suitable teaching range. Some relevant teaching experience is essential.  The College is seeking a scholar with a strong commitment to teaching and a willingness to engage in all aspects of a tutor’s role. The appointee will be a member of the Senior Common Room.

The stipend will be on a scale from £14,303 - £16,087 per annum, pro rata (rates for 2011-12), depending on qualifications and experience, and membership of the USS pension scheme is offered. Meal entitlements in College are detailed in the Further Particulars.  Research and entertainment allowances are also offered, as well as access to a teaching room.

The Further Particulars, including details of how to apply, are available from the St Hilda’s College website at www.st-hildas.ox.ac.uk and from the Academic Registrar, St Hilda’s College, Oxford OX4 1DY ([log in to unmask]). The closing date is noon on Friday 5 October, and the interviews will take place on Monday 29 October 2012.

St Hilda’s College is an equal opportunities employer.
