Dance & Somatic Practices Conference 2013 at Coventry University, UK Attending to movement: Somatic perspectives on living in this world Friday 12 July- Sunday 14 July 2013 Coventry University School of Art & Design, Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE) Convened by Professor Sarah Whatley, Dr Natalie Garrett Brown and Ms Kirsty Alexander Confirmed Keynote contributions from Carol Brown (Carol Brown Dances / University of Auckland, New Zealand), Rebecca Nettl-Fiol and Jan Erkert (University of Illinois, USA) This three-day event, presented in collaboration with Independent Dance (London), invites somatic practitioners, dance artists and scholars from a range of subject domains to transverse discipline borders and investigate the approaches that embodied thinking and action can afford to philosophical and socio-cultural inquiry. The conference celebrates and builds upon the work of visionary dance artist, teacher and scholar Gill Clarke (1954 -2011), who championed the value of somatic approaches within and beyond dance education and creative practice. Contributors will have the opportunity to submit academic papers and other textual contributions for consideration for a dedicated issue of the Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices.
