The Classics and Archaeology at the University of Melbourne is a leading
program for the study of the ancient world. The only program of its kind
in Australia, it is home to cutting edge research and field study
undertaken by its staff, researchers and fellows. The program is
affiliated with institutions such as The Classical Association of Victoria
(CAV) with whom we regularly collaborate on a variety of lectures and
events.
 
The discipline of Classics, part of the Classics and Archaeology program,
in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies teaches a suite of
undergraduate subjects, has a strong research higher degree culture, and
an internationally recognised research profile. The discipline has
strengths in ancient Greek and Latin language and literature, and Near
Eastern, Aegean and Classical archaeology. The School now seeks to appoint
a Lecturer (US equivalent of Assistant Professor) in the field of
Classics, with a specialisation in ancient Greek language and literature.
 
To be successful in this role you will have an established research
specialisation as above, and demonstrate potential to achieve a high level
of research performance through the steady production of refereed
publications and success in obtaining research grants, as well as the
demonstrated potential to attain academic promotion. You will have a
proven capability to make a significant contribution to research and
engagement in Classics and Ancient World Studies, and will aspire to
cultivate research links and networks with other groups on campus, as well
as nationally and internationally.

The Department of Classics at the University of Maryland, College
Park, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at
the rank of Assistant Professor.  The starting date for this position
is August 23, 2013.
 
We seek a broadly trained Classicist whose research and teaching
interests are focused on Latin prose; in particular, we are searching
for someone whose work focuses on historiographic, rhetorical, and
cultural issues.  The successful candidate will be prepared to teach
Latin courses on authors such as Cicero, Caesar, Livy, and Tacitus,
and on topics in Roman culture taught in English.  An interest in
visual and material culture or in classical reception would
complement the existing interests of the department.
 
Candidates must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.  Teaching
experience at the college or university level is required, preferably
including courses in Latin language and literature and in classical
civilization; interest in Latin pedagogy and/or experience in working
with K-12 Latin teachers is desirable.
 
The Department of Classics offers B.A. degrees in Latin, Latin and
Greek, and Classical Humanities, as well as M.A. degrees in Latin and
Latin and Greek.  It enjoys close ties with the Departments of
History, English, and Art History and Archaeology, which award the
M.A. and Ph.D. degrees with concentrations in areas such as ancient
history and classical reception.  The successful candidate will thus
have the opportunity to work with graduate students, and to
collaborate with faculty, in these fields as well as in Classics.

D.C. and 32 miles from Baltimore, MD.  The wider metropolitan area is

Professor. The Department seeks a candidate with high potential for
significant publications and excellence in teaching. The starting
