JOB TITLE: 	Art Librarian, art gallery, Central London
	
WORKING IN: 	close association with Gallery researchers and Directors

HOURS: 	full time, from 0930 – 1800, Monday to Friday

The gallery has two libraries of art books, publications and catalogues.  The primary objectives of the job are to upgrade the libraries to current best practice and the highest industry standards, and to re-organise the libraries in both buildings, including incorporating all books currently in store.

LIST OF DUTIES:

Please note this list is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all duties.

§	Library database review
§	Looking at the existing library database and recommending any necessary changes to ensure the system is ‘state of the art’ and 	appropriate for the gallery;
§	Recommending any necessary changes to the way in which the security of the books are safeguarded;
§	Preparing a report for gallery Directors setting out the recommendations so an agreed plan can be adopted;
§	Ensure that access to the library record is available to all staff who require lookup facilities;
§	In association with our IT consultants, implementing agreed changes
§	Recording of books on library database
§	Checking and updating the recording of books currently on the library database record;
§	Entering details of all books not yet on the library record;
§	Careful recording of duplicate books so that a decision can be made as to whether they should be retained;
§	Ensuring all books currently stored in locations other than the libraries are catalogued and incorporated into the libraries
§	Artist database
§	Cross checking list of gallery artists to library record and identifying any gaps in the library collection;
§	Sourcing books as required to enhance the collection
§	Accessibility of library records
§	Ensuring the library database provides easy lookup for staff and directors
§	Implementing system for keeping track of books borrowed from the libraries
§	Picture library (subsequent to work on the library database)
§	Review of current arrangements for the recording and safeguarding of transparencies and photographs with a view to establishing a 	proper system
§	Implementing agreed proposals
§	Possibly co-ordinating and filing certificates and expertise for paintings


ATTRIBUTES:

§	Good working knowledge of art library systems and recording of books and images
§	Presentable, with ability to communicate with Directors, clients and gallery staff
§	Strong interest in art, especially art publications
§	Team player, willing to accept responsibility
§	Computer literate with high Word, and library databases
§	Hardworking with ability to meet deadlines and prioritise a busy workload
