Unfortunately I get “Full pages only available to Subscribers” for both these.
Anyone else more successful?

Subject: media coverage of diagnostic and screening tests
For a Friday afternoon relaxed moment: an interesting paper was just released in MJA:
What the public learns about screening and diagnostic tests through the media by
Amanda J Wilson, Jane Robertson, Benjamin D Ewald and David Henry,
Med J Aust 2012; 197 (6): 324-326.
with a key message of:
Better journalistic standards for reporting on medical tests will mean better informed health care consumers
AND a reply by a journalist
https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2012/197/6/journalist-s-view-reporting-medical-tests
with a key message of:
Reporters need to balance real-world writing pressures against idealised reporting standards
I also attach two slides I recently used in a talk about how differently journalists in the UK vs the US and AU interpreted the same evidence on prostate cancer screening. If you have difficulties of downloading these
articles, let me know.
Does this mean we should also educate the media about tests or that at least journalists should be made more aware that they should seek advice from professionals before they report diagnostic ‘breakthrough’ stories?
Regards, Rita
