2. Sociological Research Online: Call for Rapid Response articles on the theme of the Olympics.

The social implications of the London 2012 Olympics have been discussed extensively in the media with examples including gender politics, the educational background of medal winners, nationalism, equality and the economic implications of hosting the Games.

These and other issues connect to a wide range of different facets of sociological research and theory, and so Sociological Research Online (SRO) is now welcoming Rapid Response articles (up to 3000 words) that offer research or theory led discussion of the sociological implications of the Olympics.

If you have research or theory that can add to the discussion, you can submit your papers online making it clear that your submission is a 'Rapid Response'. The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2012, with all submissions peer reviewed in the usual way. The SRO web page is:

http://www.epress.ac.uk/SRO/webforms/author.php

In October last year, Sociology published a special issue looking at research on the Olympics and readers can access this through the BSA Members Area.

3. Please note that the Postgraduate Forum scheduled for 7 September has been cancelled.

Details of study group events and activities in 2012-2013 will be circulated next month.
