Picturing Change
Digital visual culture in early years education

Picturing Change is a one-day workshop exploring the role of digital visual culture in the formal and informal education of young children. As the screen becomes increasingly prominent in homes and schools as a source of visual stimulation and as a medium for visual exploration, educators and educational researchers must take on the responsibility of understanding how this cultural change will influence the development and learning of young children. Picturing Change will be an opportunity to discuss the theories and methods that are best suited to this task, as well as a forum for sharing findings that have been made in the field so far.
Contributions are invited on the following topics (though this list is not exhaustive or limiting):
· Photography and film in early years settings
· Digital exposure in the home
· Young children’s picture-making on screen
· Interactive whiteboards in early years classrooms
· Digital visual methodologies for researching early childhood
· Practitioners’ approaches to the integration of digital media
