Some group members may be interested in an exciting new resource that has been developed by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute. Genome generation is a card-based discussion activity to help students debate current issues in genetics and genomics. Over the next few months we are running a series of free workshops for educators to show them how to use the resource and get their thoughts on how it could be used in the classroom. The sessions will be evaluated by staff from PATHWAY UK and the University of Cambridge Faculty of education. Please find details below:
Have you ever wondered how the latest genetics and genomics research will have an impact on health and society? Do you want to encourage your students to develop the skills to confidently discuss contemporary science in the classroom?
Genome Generation is a new card-based discussion activity that helps your students debate current issues in genetics and genomics. The activity provides students with real life scenarios and information about genomics. They analyse data, challenge their own ideas and consider how genomics will transform healthcare and influence our lives in the future. The activity has been developed by leading genomics research institutes the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute.
Working with the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education(www.educ.cam.ac.uk) and PATHWAY UK (www.pathwayuk.org.uk) we are offering free training sessions in the use of this exciting new resource. Places are limited so please book early!
