The University of the Arts Târgu-Mureș announces :

MEDIA IN THEATRE – THEATRE IN MEDIA

XIII. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THEATRE STUDIES

Târgu Mures (Romania) , 16-17 November  2012

The media universe of the 20th and 21st centuries has changed not only our daily lives and our conception about reality, but the modes of artistic expression as well. The aim of our conference is to reveal firstly the process of mediatization taking place in theatre (and related arts), and secondly the theatricality of contemporary media (both in everyday life and on stage). One question refers to the impact of our media-rooted world on performances that do not actively use new media. What is the role of new media and their influence on the actor’s work? How does the use of media transform concepts such as text, image, gaze or performativity? The question of theatrical memory needs to be reformulated as well. New data come with advantages and new problems due to the possibility of recording and recycling stage performances in other media, on film, in analog and later in digital format.

We welcome papers from university scholars, researchers, doctoral students. Languages of the conference are English, French, Romanian and Hungarian. The length of a presentation is 15 minutes.

We offer assistance for booking accommodation.

Deadline for application and submission of abstracts is 29 October 2012. Abstracts of maximum 200 words, in Romanian, Hungarian, English or French should be sent to: [log in to unmask]. Following peer review, papers are to be published in SYMBOLON, the theatre studies periodical of the university. Further information: Zoltán Csép ([log in to unmask],   [log in to unmask].)
