Hi Tim

We have long battled with HSJ. Although they say there is 'online' access, in reality, this does not constitute access to the main content of the actual printed journal. Our customers are often confused by this, and express anger and frustration because they perceive the library to be withholding a service. In addition, the online component which you can gain access to, is in fact tied not only by password use, but once it has been accessed on a single computer (not network), the system appears to recognise only the IP for that single workstation as being the legitimate access point for HSJ for all future access. Clearly this is not a solution for our customers - it has been deeply frustrating for us at NHSBT, because we have a distribution of staff across the whole of the UK. The only solution we have reached, is to purchase 16 copies of the print title and place them in main centres - although many of our staff are not based in centres, but local teams that travel. So in reality there is a paucity of access for the vast majority of staff.

Repeated requests and discussions with Emap asking for Athens access have been fruitless.

I went to an exhibition appx 18 months ago, and thought I would again ask the question as to whether there were any plans to make the journal electronically available. At that time I was told they were looking into it and that subscriptions (if they did decide to go electronic) would most likely be based on the number of current subscriptions which an organisation now receive as print copies. They were particularly keen to reach CEO's and senior management.

I don't know what would get Emap to reconsider their current strategy, which seems to be working for them - or they would be taking up the electronic option. We have tried endlessly to negotiate, to no avail.

Best wishes
Diane

Subject: Health service journal

Hi all,
This may be better posted on another list but here goes....
Could anyone check to see if they get access to the Health Service Journal?
Is it part of the NCC?
It says there should be access through my Journals (proquest) but there are no issues available to view.
Is this a mistake on my part or a wider problem?
Many thanks
Tim
