Dear LIS-LINKers,

Please do pass on if you know anyone who may be interested in volunteering at Amnesty's Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch, or who is looking to get some voluntary work experience in a library. In light of recent controversy in the sector, I'd like to note that we don't use volunteers to replace the work of paid professional staff and volunteers are only recruited to assist with projects which would otherwise not be done!

If you have noticeboards where you can put a poster up or are otherwise able to circulate the ad below, it would be very much appreciated. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to know more about using the centre or about the volunteer positions. Best wishes, Farah

We are looking for motivated volunteers to assist our team in the Resource Centre, Amnesty's publicly accessible library with information on human rights and the work of Amnesty. Volunteers will gain experience of working in a specialist library, the skills and experience to update intranet web pages and the opportunity to develop library resources in particular campaigning areas.

Alternatively, according to your experience and interest, we are looking for a volunteer archivist to improve the accessibility of our extensive archive materials going back 50 years.

Volunteers should ideally be available for three days a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, although those who have a special interest in working on our archives project, or are combining volunteering with studying for a library qualification or employment in the information sector, are encouraged to apply with a minimum commitment of one day a week. Travel expenses and luncheon vouchers provided. Ideally candidates will have an interest in pursuing a career in, or previous experience in, the library or information profession. Amnesty International values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Further details and an application form available from: www.amnesty.org.uk/volunteer.

Closing date: Monday 13 August 2012 at midday
Informal interviews will take place on Friday 17 August 2012.
