Purpose and Main Duties
This is an exciting opportunity for applicants with specialist interest in teaching on our MSc Development Studies programme.  
We are currently looking for a number of part-time fixed term Associate Lecturer A's to teach the following modules beginning September/October 2012:
	* War, Conflict and Development  (option module)
	* Development Studies: Theoretical Approaches (core module)
	* The Politics and Economics of Development (core module)

Your main responsibility will be 
preparation, teaching, contributing to and undertaking student 
assessment and examinations across the programme and undertaking the 
student pastoral care associated with teaching on the module. You will 
deliver teaching to Birkbeck students in order to enable them to 
complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course 
administrative duties as required.     

Candidate Requirements
In addition to the job requirements outlined on the attached role profile the minimum requirements for selection are as follows:
	* Have or be close to completing a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area 
	* Relevant teaching experience and ability to teach at Level 7, ideally working with adult students within the HE/FE sector
	* A good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and 
enthusiasm
	* Experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods
	* Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts
	* A working knowledge of IT including word, excel, email and experience 
of/or willingness to use (Moodle), a virtual learning environment
	* Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently as appropriate
	* Willing to engage in reflective practice
Please note: Candidates will need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.
 
In addition it is desirable that candidates have: 
	* Significant experience of teaching adults from a wide range of backgrounds on open access courses (particularly in HE) 
	* A Teaching Qualification

Remuneration: Payment is based on an hourly rate dependent on length of service with 
the College (starting rate £34.27 per hour inclusive of holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate includes preparation, teaching, 
assessment, marking and other examining and administrative duties in 
connection with the course. Applicants should note that rates are 
currently under negotiation and may increase prior to the beginning of 
term.

Purpose and Main Duties

Based within the Department of Geography, Environment & Development 
Studies this is an exciting opportunity for applicants with specialist 
interest in teaching Level 4 Social Anthropology (equivalent of 1st year undergraduate level) to part-time adult learners as part of our small 
teaching team. Your main responsibility will be preparation, lecturing, 
administration, pastoral care and assessment on the Social Anthropology programme. You will deliver teaching to Birkbeck students in order to enable them 
to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course 
administrative duties as required. 
We are currently looking for a part-time fixed term Associate Lecturer 
A to teach the following Level 4 modules from Autumn Term 2012.
    * An Introductory Anthropology module (Ways of Seeing)
    * Material Culture, Consumption and Construction of Self
 The modules are taught 1 evening a week each from 6-9pm (combining 
lectures, seminars and group work) in 10 week blocks with 1 reading week so 30 contact hours per modular occurrence. 

Candidate Requirements
