Research Associate / Fellow (Statistician)
Post reference number 250BR

South East Wales Trials Unit (SEWTU)
School of Medicine, Cardiff University

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this UKCRC-registered trials unit as a Statistician/Senior Statistician. The level of appointment will depend on how closely you match the skills and level of experience described, but in either capacity you will contribute to the design, management and analysis of research studies within the Unit and be the lead statistical consultant for the Research Design and Conduct Service (RDCS) for the NHS.

With a good first degree with a major statistical component and a PhD (or equivalent experience) you will require excellent organisation and IT skills and have experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment and conducting multivariate analysis. You will also need to have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and communication skills (oral and written). This position would suit a self-motivated and proactive individual with a flexible approach to work, an ability to communicate statistical ideas to non-statisticians, a willingness to learn and develop new skills, and an ability to motivate others. Experience in consultancy or advisory services is desirable.

In order to be appointed at the higher grade, you will need to have a strong academic track record and to have published in high impact journals, have a strong record of attracting external funding, and a proven track record in delivering research projects to deadline and quality. You will also have experience of successfully supervising and developing teams, and of research student supervision.
