Dear all,
The Higher Education Race Action Group (HERAG<http://www.ecu.ac.uk/practitioner-networks/herag>) is holding a Biennial General Meeting on Monday 22nd October and everyone with an interest in promoting race equality in higher education is welcome to attend. The exact location and timings will be confirmed soon but it will be in London.
There will be two main areas of focus for the meeting:
1). The structure and operation of HERAG, including:
- Proposal to extend the current Chair and Vice Chair role for another year to ensure continuity or to agree arrangements for electing the new Chair and Vice Chair
- The timing and location of HERAG meetings, how to include UK-wide institutions and how to arrange the meetings to allow the most amount of people to attend
- How HERAG fits in with other groups, networks and organisations within the sector
- Revising the terms of reference (attached) following discussions
2). HERAG aims and objectives for the forthcoming two years. Possible ideas so far include:
- Working with HEFCE to maintain and increase equality in the REF going forward, including a review of the implications of being a minority individual in a peer review system
- Responding to the Government Equalities Office review of the public sector equality duties and changes to legislation
If you have work areas to add to the second session's discussion then please let me know in advance of the meeting or post ideas on the new HERAG Jiscmail list.
From now on all details for HERAG will be posted on the new [log in to unmask]<https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=HERAG> list (copied into this email).
