Anthony Orum, Krista Paulsen, and I are happy to announce that our new book, Introduction to Cities: How Place and Space Shape Human Experience, will be available in August from Wiley-Blackwell
(see

http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Cities-Place-Space-Experience/dp/140515554X/).
This text provides a comprehensive introduction to cities with an emphasis on how human beings create and experience urban spaces and places. The book is ambitious in its scope, covering urban
theory and methods for studying cities, patterns of urban growth and expansion (including suburbs), urban inequality and diversity, and issues of environment and sustainability. Cases and examples from across the globe are used throughout, and we provide sustained
attention to cities of the developing world and the global economy's impact on cities.
We have taken care to create an accessible work that will engage students new to urban sociology or urban
studies. The prose is jargon free and conversational, and the text includes a number of pedagogical features that will facilitate readers' understanding of the material. Companion websites provide additional resources for instructors
and students.
