I'd far rather read about job opportunities, exciting or otherwise, than about people questioning the use of an adjective in an advert which is, after all, designed to sell the appeal of something to somebody.

However, perhaps other adjectives could be used in its stead?

Ben.

In much the same way that general contributions to PSI-COM are routinely prefixed with the magic mantra "Apologies for cross-posting", job notices posted here inevitably include reference to an "exciting opportunity". This practice may be ubiquitous to HR-dom, but I still question its use here.

Is the routine inclusion in job adverts of the term "exciting opportunity" necessary or appropriate, a legitimate use of language, or an unthinking abuse of same? And exciting for whom, exactly? If for the successful applicant, that fact will surely emerge in the longer term, and not before they have put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard.

A Google search with the string "exciting opportunity" returns 16,200,000 hits.
