thanks for the tip. Stuck with LyX and latex for now... since the entire 
first draft of one book.  I may look at this for future needs. LyX uses 
em spaces for white space, good for poetry and the best novel writing 
tool I know. I did start rewriting using Libre Office, but this is not 
going to work. (LaTex also works with Quark, thanks to the typesetting 
format.)

I use to compile my own version of LyX, which I could tweak the config 
files and C flags for my needs, but thought I would try the ubuntu 
version. The full version still works, just much more then I need. May 
consider going back to my version but tweaking and compiling on a 
netbook may not be so easy?
