Dear all,

[Apologies for cross-posting]

Durham University's annual "Risk and Reliability Modelling of Energy Systems" day will be held in the Joachim Room at the College of St. Hild and St. Bede on Tuesday 27 November 2012.

If you would like to give a presentation, please email an abstract (200 words maximum) to Sean Norris ([log in to unmask]) by Thursday 13 September. Please specity whether you prefer an oral presentation, or an "IEEE Paper Forum" style presentation (i.e. a 5 minute presentation followed by a poster); following the success of previous events, this year we anticipate that we will not be able to accommodate all requests for full oral presentations. A full paper will not be required.

For the first time at this event there will be a student presentation prize (first prize £150, second prize £75), generously sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society UK and Republic of Ireland Chapter.

Full details of the event may be found at: https://sites.google.com/site/durhamriskday/home, including the registration form, plus travel details and suggested hotels.

There will be an informal dinner on Monday 26 November (1930 for 2000), also at Hild-Bede College. The registration fee is £30 for non-Durham delegates (to include refreshments throughout the day and lunch), and the registration deadline is Friday 9 November. When registering, please indicate whether you would like to attend the dinner (cost £15). This year we have a full online booking system allowing payment by credit card.

The two invited speakers for 2012 are:
- Dave Miller, Northern Powergrid: "Risk-based planning of electricity distribution systems".
- Tim Bedford, Strathclyde University: "Bayesian uncertainty analysis with application to offshore wind farms" (provisional title).

Particularly for visitors travelling a long way, we can arrange further discussions with relevant Durham researchers on the neighbouring days in order to make a more substantial visit.

If you require any further information, then please don't hesitate to email me or Sean Norris.

Best regards,

Chris
