Yes naturally I will be at pains to emphasise that putting any derivative in Jorum (hopefully via our local repository!) rather than just the VLE  is a Good Thing!

Like Phil, Sarah and Google I probably wouldn’t have given the VLE issue undue consideration but the query was channelled through our Copyright Clearance Officer who tends to be rather less slapdash and has emailed Creative Commons for clarification…that the question was raised by a user is interesting in itself I think; that there is some ambiguity is, er, clear.

I refer the honourable ladies and gentleman to the case of Google Vs Not Being Evil.

The Google CC videos (of which there are 4 million) are available via the Youtube Editor, which I believe you have to log in to use.

Of course, I would never suggest Google does not honour all Intellectual Property rights

Hi all,

I always take Share Alike to mean that wherever you share the content, it has the same licence conditions attached as the original content you have used or adapted. “Sharing via Jorum” isn’t a licence condition, it’s just a space where you’re sharing.

Like Phil I tend to not think about the “putting it up behind a p***worded VLE” issue.

A question that I’m not entirely sure of the answer to:

My queries are about when I have used images from resources in Jorum and then put them into my own powerpoints, do I need to upload my powerpoint to Jorum if a condition is share alike? Or is it OK to be sharing it with our students in X-stream. I'm not sure what 'share alike' means in practice.

Thanks

Nick
