Job Title: Library Assistant

Hours: 18.75 per week to be worked as follows –

Monday to Thursday – 1:15pm – 5:00pm, Friday - 12.15pm – 4pm

 

Contract Length: Fixed term until 12 July 2013

 

Grade/Salary Scale: Band 3 - £16,110 - £19,077 per annum pro rata

 

Details:

The Francis Costello Library is seeking a capable, efficient and highly motivated library assistant to be

responsible for the delivery of frontline library services. The successful candidate will be expected to

undertake a large volume of work to a high standard in a busy library environment.

The Library is committed to providing excellent customer service, and you will work flexibly and as part of a

small team to provide an effective and responsive service. Based within the Francis Costello Library, you

will provide the first line of contact in the provision and promotion of high quality library and information

services for all Trust staff and library users in order to support the highest standards of clinical care,

education, training and research. Duties will include: working on the library enquiry desk handling enquiries,

registration of new users and library induction, locating and requesting relevant documents, photocopying

articles, processing new books and journal issues, administering library computer systems. This is not an

exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to communicate with other team members on a daily basis

and to effectively manage your own workload.

There is an expectation that the successful candidate will actively engage in a culture of continuous

improvement by achieving personal and service targets and supporting the library’s aim to become fully

compliant with the NHS Library Quality and Assurance Framework.

Qualifications/Experience:

Good general IT skills (word processing, use of the Internet and email). The European Computer Driving

Licence or similar qualification is desirable.

A highly motivated individual, you will require organisational and time-management skills, in particular the

ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Experience of working as a team, excellent communication skills and the confidence to run the library alone

are also essential requirements for this post.
