CFP: The Role of Audio-Visual Aids in Foreign Language Instruction In recent decades, videos have played an important role in Foreign Language Instruction and considerable confidence has been placed in the value of audio-visual aids to enhance the learning of foreign languages. Yet there is little empirical data and research to support the proposition that video facilitates in the learning of foreign languages. This panel has the main objective of reviewing the results of recent researchers about how audio-visual aids enhance the language-learning process and to what extent introducing audio-visual materials in Foreign Language Instruction can influence students’ acquisition. On the other hand, the fast-changing technology has made many user-friendly tools available to teachers who want to retrieve materials and use digital videos in their Foreign Language courses (either inside or outside class): from YouTube to ITunes, from PowerPoint to more sophisticated programs, there is a wide range of possibilities that let instructors optimize strategies and activities while using audio-visual materials in their courses. What is the added value of these tools? How can they be exploited in order to enhance language acquisition?
