Many thanks, Salvatore ================== *Call for Papers* ** ** *The Department of Italian Studies, the University of Toronto * and the *Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Toronto* ** ** are pleased to announce a conference on ** ** *Italian Literature and Religion* ** University of Toronto October 11-13, 2012 *//* *//* The debate on the role of the Church in the civil society reignited again in Italy recently. The coincidence of the half-century anniversary of the opening of Vatican II too often reduces the debate to an evaluation of the Church activities in the contemporary period. Apart from the political significance and the inevitable consequences in the forthcoming electoral debate, one cannot avoid considering the importance of the historical dimension of the /vexata quaestio/: a controversial issue of identity for the Italian culture that has lasted for centuries. With this in mind, we are proposing a conference on this theme without any chronological limitation regarding authors (and writings) to be included in the discussion from Dante to Manzoni, from Gioberti to Rebora. Papers should be approximately 20 minutes in length and may be either in Italian or English.
