I agree John, it is interesting to hear the view of others and I also think that -as was so rightly pointed out -there is a delete button should you not wish to participate or if a message gets accidently delivered to the list rather than an individual ....and surely an open discussion group will some of its open-ness if members just talk to each other and not to the group as a whole ...... But I would have thought it of benefit for members to be aware of others views. John >>> "HOLDSWORTH R.E." <[log in to unmask]> 04/07/2012 11:57 >>> Yes. And the problem John with the question you've just asked is that everyone is potentially going to get hundreds of e-mails with individual responses to your question. Like this one. Can I suggest that you ask people to reply to you personally on this? One good reason we should add this extra step is that we've all made the mistake of hitting reply to a message on this list when we really should have just responded to the sender in person. Sometimes with unfortunate consequences (albeit entertaining in some cases - yes Christie, I mean you...) When the use if this setting has been queried I've always put forward the argument that it is a discussion list and so change the setting to reply-to-sender would stifle the discussions that do break out from time to time. Generally, the response from members has been to support leaving the setting as is. I've been prompted to look a little further into this and have found that there is a setting in the list software that would enable us to take a different approach. It would require that all posters to the list respond to a confirmation email, either by replying "OK" or by clicking on an embedded link. I probably don't need to spell this out but just so that we are clear, the question is - Are we prepared to accept an additional step in the process of posting to the list so that posters have the opportunity to reconsider whether their message should be distributed to all members? I await your responses.
