The Department of Earth Sciences at Durham University, UK, has several fully funded PhD studentships available in the research fields of geochemistry, tectonics, hydrocarbon exploration, and volcanism. At the moment, the following projects are available: 

• 'Nanogeochemistry of low salinity enhanced oil recovery'
• 'Petroleum habitats in magma‐rich margins', application deadline: 30th June, 2012
• 'Str! uctural and Thermal Evolution of the Togo and Benin Margin', application deadline: 5th September, 2012
• 'Influence of fluid pressure on the diagenesis of clastic sediments', application deadline: 29th June, 2012
• 'Quantifying the impact of volcanic ash particulates on the environment'
• 'Glacial weathering inputs of iron to the remote open oceans – new constraints from Fe stable isotopes', application deadline: 8th July, 2012

Candidate eligibility: candidates must hold a first or upper second-class honours degree BSc (or international equivalent) and/or an MSc degree in Earth Sciences or a related subject. Further eligibility criteria might apply, depending on the project, and will be listed in the project description.
