Grade 8: £37,012 - £44,166 with a discretionary range to £48,246 p.a.



This post presents an excellent career enhancement opportunity for a suitably qualified person in Applied Linguistics with a focus on Second Language Education. The main duties will be to contribute to the teaching and supervision of students on the highly successful MSc in Applied Linguistics/Second Language Acquisition (ALSLA). The postholder will also carry out important research in this field, lead or collaborate on research projects, and apply for research grants in collaboration with members of the applied linguistics research group. As well as teaching graduate students following the MSc in ALSLA, they will contribute to syllabus development and running of MSc ALSLA as part of the course committee, supervise graduate students, (MSc and DPhil), contribute to examining for the MSc ALSLA course, contribute to DPhil Transfer, Confirmation of Status and final examination.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, a good first degree in Applied Linguistics, or other relevant subject, be familiar with the existing literature and research in the field and have teaching and research experience in the higher education context. They will also have a strong publication record and evidence of a developing research agenda. Evidence of an ability to write research proposals would be desirable.

This is a fixed-term contract from 1 January 2013 until 31 July 2015.

The post is based at the Department of Education in Oxford.
