Go Vin!,
I also had a response to the term "user-led" organisation as we don't call people who use a service such as the swimming baths "users", they are people first and foremost and the fact that they might or might not use or indeed lead a service is irrelevant to their status as a person!

There is therefore a distinction. drawn between impairment and disability.

This new programme will be unique and innovative as it seeks to move beyond the current dominant approaches to the study of learning disability. Rather than focus attention on either individual impairment or, indeed, the generic disability studies agenda, we have created a course based on the expectations and aspirations of learning disabled people (who have consulted on the development of the programme and will also teach on many of the compulsory units). This course will highlight and respond to the complex positioning of learning disabled people in today's society (and within the mainstream discipline of Disability Studies) through the study of contemporary (and emerging) critical theoretical approaches. The programme will enable students to critical consider a range of issues including supporting sexuality and relationships, advocacy and rights, social policy and inclusion, and the development and management of user-led services.
