Dear BARS members,

The 31st issue of the annual John Clare Society Journal will be published on the poet's birthday, 13 July 2012, in Helpston. This year's issue contains a retrospective essay surveying the first 30 issues by Kiwi scholar Greg Crossan, a critical tussle over the 'Mouse's Nest' between John Lucas and Ben Hickman, new scholarship from Bob Heyes, Andrew Hodgson, Cassandra Falke and Kelsey Thornton, and features full-colour contemporary art responding to Clare on the front and back covers, by Brian Shields (brianshields-artist.co.uk).

The journal is free to society members, and is also available for purchase individually for £7, details here: johnclaresociety.blogspot.co.uk/p/sales.html.

For further details and how to submit essays to the journal, please visit the 'Journal' section of The John Clare Page: www.johnclare.info.

**The annual Clare festival runs from 13-15 July 2012 in Helpston; full details here: johnclaresociety.blogspot.co.uk/p/festival-1012.html**
