Training Fellow in Health Economics & Clinical Trials

 

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and quantitatively minded graduate to spend 2 years in training and research in the area of economic analysis of healthcare interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease. This post has been funded by the NIHR Research Methods Programme, as part of a national programme to increase the number of specialists in applied health research methods.

To realise the full potential of this post, we are looking for an outstanding candidate with a strong interest in developing a career in evaluative healthcare research. The post has a sizeable training component that will be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate.  During the 2 years the Fellow will appraise current methods (e.g. use of clinical trials and disease modelling for long-term economic analyses and approaches to subgroup economic analysis), gain experience in their use and develop his/her future research plans under the supervision of Dr Borislava Mihaylova and Professor Alastair Gray at HERC and Dr Jonathan Emberson at CTSU.

Applicants should have an excellent BSc or MSc in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or other quantitative discipline, very good quantitative and data analysis skills and some computer programming skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team are also essential.

The post will be based in HERC at the Dept of Public Health, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford and full-time for 2 years (or 3 years at 66% FTE).
