The Health Economics Research Centre is seeking to recruit two Senior Researchers (one at Grade 9 and one at Grade 8) in the area of health economics and clinical trials. 

 

Senior Researcher (Grade 9)

Grade 9: £42,883 - £49,689 p.a.

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) wishes to appoint an outstanding Senior Researcher in the area of health economics and large clinical trials.

You will play a key role in developing the analytical methods to be used in the economic analyses of several large cardiovascular disease prevention trials. The development of the economic analyses of the HPS2-THRIVE (Treatment of HDL to Reduce the Incidence of Vascular Events) study will be the focus of the appointment in the first instance. This is a unique opportunity to work in collaboration with other health economists at HERC and trialists, epidemiologists and statisticians at the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit.

You will be involved in the strategic planning, development and completion of these research programmes and supervise more junior staff working on them.

You should have a doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline, a recognised research reputation supported by a strong publication record and success in attracting research funding. Excellent interpersonal, communication and data analysis skills are also essential. Prior research experience in the area of health technology assessment, health economics or disease modelling is expected.

The post will be based at the Old Road Campus, Oxford and is offered full-time for 3 years in the first instance. If there are no suitable applicants at grade 9 the post may be offered at grade 8 (£37,012 - £44,166 p.a.) with a suitable change in the duties.

Senior Researcher (Grade 8)

Grade 8: £37,012 - £44,166 p.a.

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) wishes to appoint an enthusiastic Researcher to work on the economic analyses of the HPS2-THRIVE (Treatment of HDL to Reduce the Incidence of Vascular Events) study, a large-scale international clinical trial. You will work in collaboration with other health economists at HERC as well as trialists, epidemiologists and statisticians at the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU).

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to realise the potential of this post, ensuring its successful completion and improving the methods in this research area (e.g. use of large scale clinical trials for economic analyses, disease modelling and methods for extrapolation, heterogeneity across target population). You will be expected to promote and disseminate the work and findings of the programme and seek further funding to develop the programme in the longer term.

You should have (or be close to completing) a doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline and good publication record. You will also have strong quantitative, data analysis and computer programming skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team are also essential.
