We are using professional dialogue for our non formal route to UK PSF on our CPD framework, and are building resources to support experienced academics develop their teaching. I would say this short to the point resource would be very appealing to some of them. Thanks, John Ruth PS if you want to know more about our professional dialogue route, I have put up loads of materials on it on the website: http://escalate.ac.uk/6333 Dr Ruth Pilkington SFSEDA, FHEA Course Leader PG Cert LTHE, MEd, EdD School of Education & Social Studies Livesey House 211 University of Central Lancashire Tel: 01772<Tel:01772> 893106 [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> From: Online forum for SEDA, the Staff & Educational Development Association [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Debra Boyask Sent: 20 June 2012 11:00 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: 77 things to think about... Most people have to get started before they’ve had time to get into the vast array of issues that might be explored. Sometimes I do an informal introductory session for people about to teach (postgraduates and researchers), and in an hour and a half there isn’t time to do much more than get them thinking about who their students will be, how they see themselves in the role and then some very basic things about planning. Eventually, they will be involved in a more detailed programme of teacher education, but for many there’s a gap and some simple resources could be valuable as long as their limitation are made very clear. That said, wouldn’t something more searchable/encyclopaedic be more accessible? Perhaps a wiki? Dear Colleagues, I’m working on a little booklet for people just starting out in HE teaching at my place, particularly PhD students, and I found myself playing with the idea of `things to think about’, based on that old `53 ways’ idea (or was it 50 ways to leave your lover?), but this time based on the magic number `7’. It’s ended up as `77 things to think about…’ If anyone out there has the time or inclination I’d be interested in what you make of it – is it a sensible idea; what have I got wrong; what have I missed; what would you have included, etc., etc. ??? And happy to forward on the finished product if anyone would be interested???
