The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) is delighted to announce that Birgit Schmidt (Goettingen State and University Library/COAR/OpenAIRE) and Kathleen Shearer (Canadian Association of Research Libraries/COAR) are the recipients of the 2012 LIBER Award for Library Innovation.

The prize was awarded for their paper, Licensing Revisited: Open Access Clauses in Practice. The paper describes work being done through COAR to advance open access implementation via content licenses. The paper reviews the current landscape in terms of open access clauses and discusses the opportunities available for expanding open access via the use of licensing negotiations,
