Subject: Disability policies in European countries - new web resource

Dear friends (with apologies for cross posting)

On behalf of the ANED consortium and the European Commission, I'm
delighted to announce the launch our new web resource on disability
policies in European countries...

DOTCOM: the Disability Online Tool of the Commission

Published on the ANED website at:
http://www.disability-europe.net/dotcom

This new online resource offers an extensive database of information
about disability laws, policies, strategies and initiatives in the
Member States of the European Union, its Candidate and associated
countries <http://europa.eu/about-eu/countries/index_en.htm> . For each
of the 34 countries, and for the EU itself, it will include summary
information on 43 selected policy instruments (more than 1,500 records
in total) elaborated from the priorities established in the Commission
Staff Working Paper accompanying the European Disability Strategy
<http://www.ipex.eu/IPEXL-WEB/dossier/document.do?code=SEC&year=2010&num
ber=1323&extension=FIN>  (annex 2).

The tool is easy to use and allows public access to direct comparisons
of the policy initiatives taken by different European countries to
address disability issues relevant to implementation of the United
Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
<http://www.un.org/disabilities/default.asp?navid=14&pid=150> and the
European Disability Strategy 2010-2020
<http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUr
iServ.do%3Furi%3DCOM:2010:0636:FIN:EN:PDF&sa=U&ei=906hTtbSCcKQ8QPVm8T5BQ
&ved=0CBMQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNG_vNkBIxiXmsdK7gmGPZBbuilMKw> . So, for
example, if you would like to cross-check the arrangements for transport
accessibility in Lithuania, Bulgaria, Sweden and Ireland you can choose
a specific policy area and specific countries to download a bespoke
report. Alternatively, you can produce full 'country reports' for any
country. The results can be exported to spreadsheet or document formats.

This is the first stage in developing the tool. At this stage, the
published data includes factual descriptive information on key policies
and institutional arrangements, which will be maintained and updated
with new developments during 2012 and thereafter. As the resource
develops, and in discussion with key stakeholders, we hope to add new
evidence about the implementation of these policies, their outcomes for
disabled people and their evaluation.

Best wishes
