Opportunity to host the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award Artist Residency 2013
Application deadline: 10am tomorrow, Friday 8 June 2012

engage is delighted to be running the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award Artist Residency programme from 2013.

Galleries, museums and visual arts venues through out the United Kingdom are invited to submit proposals to host the 2013 Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award Artist in Residence, worth £12,000. The Award funds a ten-week artist residency and a public art commission to be displayed within the host venue. A further £2000 will be made available to the host to cover expenses.

The residency will run from January to March/April 2013. The artist/s will create a temporary or permanent work for the venue and will carry out some education work with children, young people and/or family groups during the course of their residency. The commissioned work will respond to the venue, e.g. to a collection, display, the building, the venue’s history or to an audience who use the venue.

The Award is a fantastic opportunity for a venue to work with an artist or artists through a residency and public art commission, and to develop their education programme with children, young people or families. Artists will be invited through an open call to apply for the artist residency in Summer 2012; the host organisation will be involved in the artist selection.

The Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award was established in memory of the artist Alexandra Reinhardt and is supported by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust. The Award comprises an annual artist residency culminating in an artwork in the public realm. Artists have undertaken residencies in NHS hospitals since 2005 through a programme coordinated by Paintings in Hospitals. From 2010, the artist residency programme has been coordinated by The Art Room, an organisation that works with art and artists to support vulnerable young people. engage is delighted to be running the programme from 2013.
