A CHAIR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY CANCER RESEARCH FUND AND THE NHMRC CLINICAL TRIALS CENTRE

Sydney Medical School is internationally recognised for research and teaching in health and medicine of world class standards. With formal links to more than 50 hospitals and health care facilities across New South Wales, Sydney is Australia's longest established medical school, offering outstanding opportunities for researchers and students to participate in industry-leading practices in three key areas: education, research and clinical care.

The Chair will hold an appointment as Chair of the University of Sydney Cancer Research Fund and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trials Centre (CTC).

The position will support specific research initiatives in translational cancer research in the successful candidate's area of expertise and will provide additional leadership to Sydney Catalyst translational cancer research programs.

Sydney Catalyst Translational Cancer Research Centre<http://www.sydneycatalyst.org.au/> of central Sydney and regional New South Wales is a multi-disciplinary/ multi-institutional endeavour (operating as a virtual centre). It brings together outstanding teams of researchers and clinicians from leading NSW institutions with the ability to undertake translational research across the full continuum from basic biosciences, molecular biomarker discovery, descriptive research, clinical trials, and implementation research of best evidence-based care into practice.

The CTC is a leader in clinical trials research coordinating and conducting multi-centre and multi-national clinical trials involving pharmacological, non-pharmacological or community-based interventions and promoting evidence-based medicine in Australia.

The successful candidate will have, and will continue to develop, strong local, national and international collaborations to further its research objectives, and work closely with other consortium-wide teams, and University of Sydney researchers that include medical specialists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists and health economists.

To succeed you will demonstrate:

*         PhD, or higher research qualifications in cancer medicine or relevant field

*         strong analytical skills

*         expertise in conducting own research that will contribute to translational cancer program objectives

*         excellent communication and interpersonal skills in an interdisciplinary setting

*         independent and original contributions to research (published work and scholarly activities) at national level that have had a significant impact on cancer health care and practice

*         ability to attract national and/or international funding for research

*         evidence of achieving international recognition of research in the field of cancer medicine

*         management skills and ability to provide leadership and foster excellence in translational cancer research

*         excellence in teaching, in particular in the area of research supervision.

A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Assistance with relocation may also be negotiated.
