The EFFECT project – evaluation of an online communications and tutoring system at the University of Dundee

The EFFECT project at the University of Dundee has been funded under the JISC Assessment and Feedback programme (Strand B). The webinar will take the form of a 'show and tell', with a short presentation followed by Q&A session.
Aileen McGuigan, Project Manager, will report on the findings of the project relating to its two different aspects:
(1) the evaluation of TQFE-Tutor, an innovative communications and tutoring system set up at University of Dundee in the academic year 2010/11 and now nearing its second full year of use, and
(2) the evaluation of a change to paperless submission with which the introduction of TQFE-Tutor coincided.
TQFE-Tutor incorporates a blog, an email account and a microblog site – all of which are innovatively used to support learners on the TQFE programme. In respect of (1) above, the research has been mainly qualitative - the project team have undertaken a series of focus groups with a range of stakeholders and canvassed for views on the new system. Feedback from the different groups involved - learners, administrators, academics and associate staff - has been very positive. For aspect (2), the research has been wholly quantitative, involving a comparison with another similar programme which is still using hard copy submission.
