5th Australian Cycling Conference

Adelaide

21-22 January 2013

Call for Papers: Everybody’s Cycling?

Abstract Due Date: 15 June 2012

Word Limit: 250 words

The Australian Cycling Conference aims to develop the quality of cycling research, planning and infrastructure provision in Australasia. Each year the Conference brings together policy makers, practitioners, community organisations and researchers to further knowledge and expertise in cycling. The Conference crosses institutional boundaries as it draws experts from government, community and the private sector. It is also cross disciplinary bringing together researchers and professionals from transport, engineering, health sciences, geography, urban design, urban planning, sociology and the environmental and spatial sciences. Now in its fifth year, the Australian Cycling Conference will continue to provide a participatory forum at a reasonable cost with high quality papers.

The 2013 conference has taken the title ‘Everybody’s Cycling?’ in recognition of the growth in cycling both in Australia and many countries around the world. The organisers are inviting participants to celebrate this growth and to interrogate the very possibility of every ‘body’ cycling. We also recognise the decline in cycling in some neighbouring countries and would like to see papers which analyse or report on tackling this decline.   We invite potential presenters to address the themes listed below but are happy to receive abstracts that explore themes beyond those suggested.

Themes

Infrastructure & Design

Planning for growth in cycling

Cycling in cities, towns and regional centres

Bicycle Policy, Bicycle Politics

Gendering cycling

Cycling cultures
