Doreen Massey is one of the most influential geographers of our time. Her work has been decisive in shaping current Human Geography and has strongly enhanced the use of space in all social disciplines. She has brilliantly exposed the importance of contextualizing space and place in order to understand and transform the world. Her diverse interests related to the theory of space and place include: a critical view of globalization, uneven regional development, the relevance of the local and the political commitment of geographical analysis. Massey easily crosses disciplinary boundaries, regularly participates in political debates in the UK and decisively contributes to the spread of various forms of political and social activism.

This book is a critical essay on the author and her work; it also includes a selection of her basic texts and a brand-new article.

Abel Albet is Assistant Professor of Geography at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is interested in critical spatial thinking, urban studies and new cultural geographies.

Núria Benach is Assistant Professor of Geography at the Universitat de Barcelona. She is interested in the new trends of geographical thought, discourses on urban change and the socio-spatial construction of diversity.

Icaria Espacios Críticos (Icaria Critical Spaces) is a book series directed by Abel Albet and Núria Benach aimed to be an approach to authors from various disciplines that have chosen the spatial perspective to address the critical examination of social reality.
