INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN OSTEOLOGY

A one-day course suitable for those working in outdoor occupations, 
the rescue services, field archaeology and museums. Taught by trained 
osteoarchaeologists with a combined total of over 25 years practical and professional experience in both the field and the classroom.

Course content
Introduction to the human skeleton
	* handle human bones
	* lay out a complete skeleton
	* learn to identify the different types of bonesComparative osteology
	* handle animal bones such as sheep and dog
	* learn to distinguish between human and animal remains
Self-assessment
	* review your knowledge at the start and end of the day
	* gain confidence in dealing with skeletal material
	* eliminate uncertainty when bones are found
Course venue
The course will be held at Northgate House, the University of 
Sheffield’s Archaeology Department on West Street. Northgate House is a 
five-minute tram-ride from Sheffield Station and a five minute walk from the city centre. 
Tea/coffee will be provided but lunch is not included in the price of 
the course. There is a wide choice of sandwich bars, pubs and 
restaurants less than a two minute walk from the department.
