Research Assistant – Neurolex Post 1

Salary: £23,881 - £26,779 pa
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Neurolex group, led by Professor William Marslen-Wilson. The successful applicant will support research into the comprehension of spoken language, working cross-linguistically, and primarily using neuro-imaging techniques. You will be expected to contribute to the research programme by developing and selecting experimental materials, preparing and running behavioural and neuro-imaging (MEG+EEG, fMRI) experiments, analysing data from these experiments, and recruiting and screening volunteers.
You should have a good first degree in Psychology or a related field (such as Neuroscience, Computer Science or Statistics). A Masters degree is desirable but not essential. You should have experience in both designing and running psychology studies and analysing the resulting data. A good working knowledge of computer statistics packages, databases and spreadsheets, in particular Microsoft Excel and either SPSS or R, is essential. In addition, knowledge of or experience in computer programming, particularly Python or Matlab, signal processing, or machine learning is highly desirable. A demonstrable knowledge or experience of neuroimaging (MRI & MEG) and associated analysis methods would also be beneficial.
You will be required to work methodically, be well organised with attention to detail and have excellent interpersonal skills, including the skills to treat volunteers with respect and discretion. The ability to demonstrate effective multidisciplinary team working, working to deadlines, and a strong interest in research are essential for a project of this duration.
