Dear Poppy

you might want to try the e-Bug resources www.e-bug.eu, many of the classroom lesson plans have been designed with a limited budget in mind. These are all based on microbes, hygiene and the spread treatment and prevention of infection and are aimed at 9-11 and 12 - 15 year olds. If you need any more information or would like me to send you a pack just drop me a line outside of the group

Regards

Donna

Subject: Re: [PSCI-COM] Have you got ideas for science projects in an Afghanistan school?

Dear Poppy,

Many years ago (20?) UNESCO produced a science teaching handbook for use in poorly resourced countries that gave me many cheap and effective idea's. I don't think it is print now but the materials here might help: http://www.unesco.org/new/en/natural-sciences/science-technology/basic-and-engineering-sciences/science-and-technology-education/the-global-microscience-experiments/unesco-teaching-and-learning-materials/

All the best,

Richard

They want to run a science fair, and have school pupils present the results from the projects and activities they do at the fair.

The projects can run for up to a couple of months, so projects involving monitoring, making simple equipment or multiple experimentation are suitable. The materials and resources that will be available will be extremely limited, other than what can be taken over (e.g. thermometers, calculators) and the school does not have computing resources.
