Re: [OCC-HEALTH] 2 questions I can see where you are coming from, my personal preference meeting my own learning style is face-to-face teaching. However,  some on-line courses are very good particularly those which include an assessment and a certification process.

As I am both the admissions tutor and assessments officer for the London South Bank University Workplace Health Management and SCPHN courses I have to demonstrate that I have undertaken equality and diversity training. Diana Kloss is a visiting professor in our department and I have therefore attended a number of her lectures which encompass compliance with Equality Act. I thought that would be sufficient in preparation for our NMC review earlier this year. The university insisted I did the university’s electronic training and did the associated assessment. The university training  was  generally interesting, a few bits that were not totally accurate in relation to pre-employment health assessment.(I must point out that  Diana’s lectures were actually much better!)

I am aware that my own organisation does NOt see online updates as being adequate when they are looking at  vaccination procedures/personnel.

As for BLS - both St J and others will train you, but I very much doubt that it will be for free....

Hello Jane

As a professional you should decide if you are now competent to deal with anaphylaxis as a result of this training. If things went pear shaped how would you demonstrate to a court of law that you were competent to deal with anaphylaxis?  Although vital in the event of an emergency, dealing with anaphylaxis isn’t rocket science. The BMJ are a reputable organisation and therefore I am assuming that the package was a god one. I presume that you are now looking for BLS training which will complement the above.

I doubt you will get any training for free, but you may find a CPR update which is well priced. (You could always approach your local hospital to see if they have any training courses you could access. Will your employer not fund this training?  Sell it to them using the requirements of their duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

 I am also looking for a body (ideally In Suffolk) if anyone  knows of one who can update me in CPR (preferably for free) and I was thinking  of BHF or St Johns?
