Shared access for branch staff

Hi Lynda,

We were faced with the same problem, but simply had to insist that it was impossible to have front-line PCs without generic log-ins. The damage to customer service would have been awful.

You have to get a balance between IT security, which is a necessity we all accept, and the actual practicality of running a library service day to day.

The result here is that in public areas staff log on to PCs generically (including the libraries phone/email Enquiry Centre) while all other back office PCs are logged onto using individual credentials.

Your IT people will be able to keep front facing PCs with generic log-ons, it might just need senior managers to convince them of that.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Subject: Shared access for branch staff

Hi - for some time now we have used generic branch logins at libraries giving all staff working in the branch continuous access to LSMS, PN access control systems, Internet and email without the need to log in and out of the PC between users.

We have just been told when we migrate to Windows 7, in order to comply with GCSX Code of Connection, this will no longer be an option.

Some of our city centre libraries may have up to 12 staff sharing a resource on the enquiry pod so we are concerned individual user log in may affect the efficient delivery of services to customers.

Does anyone have any advice/information on how to overcome this?
