Paul -- We were development partners with OCLC's service (back in 1997) but stopped using it for serials at the point we started subscribing to Serials Solutions. I think it's a useful service if it's still being maintained. I would suggest confirming with a real live person @ OCLC that the service is still a going concern. --Steve Steve Shadle/Serials Access Librarian [log in to unmask] NASIG President University of Washington Libraries Phone: (206) 685-3983 Seattle, WA 98195-2900 Fax: (206) 543-0854 On Wed, 9 May 2012, Catherall, Paul wrote: > Hi > I was wondering if anyone has experience using PURL persistent links (http://purl.org), I'm investigating the use of PURL links for use in the VLE etc. which I can maintain/update via the PURL interface in the event of future Web site changes. > I'm particularly interested if anyone has used the 'free' PURL service provided by OCLC (link above) or if you think a locally installed PURL service is a better option. > Thanks > Paul > > > =========================================================================== > Paul Catherall MA(Dist), MCLIP, AHEA > > E-Learning Librarian > Harold Cohen Library (room G04) > University of Liverpool, L69 3DA > Tel internal: 44345, external: [UK 0151] [international +44 151] 79 44345. > Mobile: 07970247415 > Email: [log in to unmask] > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Llyfrgellydd E-Ddysgu > Llyfrgell Harold Cohen (ystafell G04) > Prifysgol Lerpwl, L69 3DA > Ffôn mewnol: 44345, allanol: [UK 0151] [rhyngwladol +44 151] 79 44345. > Symudol: 07970247415 > Ebôst: [log in to unmask] > =========================================================================== > > > lis-e-resources is a UKSG list - http://www.uksg.org/serials > UKSG groups also available on Facebook and LinkedIn > lis-e-resources is a UKSG list - http://www.uksg.org/serials UKSG groups also available on Facebook and LinkedIn
